Peter McKinnon is a photographer, filmmaker, and youtuber based in Toronto, Canada. He concentrates mainly in landscape, street, and portrait photography; always in search of new angles and creative tactics to make his images pop. McKinnon’s work is consistently striking, as he puts a lot of thought into each and every composition and edit. On YouTube, McKinnon makes videos all geared towards learning how to be a better photographer and content creator. His images are all examples of how utilizing tips, tricks, and tools can elevate your photos to the next level. Learning new techniques while seeing the direct outcomes of those techniques greatly motivates budding, self taught photographers as they are able to see the possibilities of what they can accomplish as artists.
McKinnon’s photographs display the value of looking at things from a different perspective. Another great lesson he teaches is understanding what your art means to you. In his recent film, The Bucket Shot, McKinnon says, “Photography means something to me… What does is mean to you?” For an artist, knowing what that driving force is will ultimately lead to the creation of the best, most meaningful work. Each piece will have a story behind it, and looking at an image will take you back to the moment the shot was taken, and all the moments in between. Peter McKinnon is a good example of these values coming into play when creating artwork, and that is especially evident in the first photo below: The Bucket Shot
