30.) Maggie Taylor

Maggie Taylor is an artist who uses a flatbed scanner rather than a traditional digital camera to record the objects she collects. She searches at flea markets for old tintypes and toys, then in her studio she makes small pastel drawings as backgrounds, and separately scans each image into the computer. She then arranges these layers in photoshop, much like the way she would arrange a still life in the studio. None of the images have a specific meaning, but rather act as a provocative, open-ended poem.

Taylor’s images are quirky and fun, and allow the viewer to derive their own meaning for each one. The colors and shapes allow for a great range of possibilities for different stories and feelings to be drawn out. There is also a fairy-tale energy in her style, that adds to the overall tone of each artwork.
